It was a beautiful day at QCMS as the Eagles took on the Cardinals in an important divisional game. Coming off their first loss of the season last week, the Eagles looked focused and primed to get back to their winning ways.
Coming off of an injury that sidelined him for the first four games, tailback Bradley Beaver shook off the rust and a few Cardinal tacklers on a nice kickoff return to open the game. The offense stalled on the first drive and turned the ball over on downs to the Cardinals.
The Eagles aggressive defense then took the field and stuffed the Cardinals on 4 downs to regain possession for the Eagles. Led by Quarterback Reed Erwin, the Eagles methodically moved the sticks and were in striking distance as the first quarter came to a close.
Then it happened… Walker Pattyson took a handoff up the middle and danced his way into the endzone on a 20 yd scamper behind a crushing block by fullback Sam Oram. The Eagles punched the ball in for the extra point and took the lead 7-0.
On the next possession, the Cardinals earned their first of few first downs on the day as they found a hole in the middle of the defensive line and took advantage of a silent count to catch the Eagles defense off guard. Coach Romel deftly made some minor adjustments to shore up the middle and the Cardinals were forced to turn the ball back over to the Eagles offense with 1:30 remaining in the half.
With time running down, the Eagles quickly moved the ball to mid field on a series of tough runs by Bradley Beaver and Walker Pattyson. With 0:30 seconds left in the half, Coach Erwin called Pattyson’s number again and the fleet footed tailback took it the distance from the 50 to put the Eagles ahead 13-0.
The Eagles opened the second half with an onside kick that was recovered by Maison Ardans. The Eagles wasted little time building on the lead as Walker Pattyson took a pitch to the left and danced through a wave of Cardinal defenders on his way to his third touchdown of the game.
Showing no mercy, the Eagles recovered yet another fumble on the ensuing kickoff and gave the ball back to the Eagles high octane running attack. More tough runs by Dakota Neer, Bradley Beaver and Walker Pattyson put the Eagle offense within striking distance for yet another score. I’ll let you guess who….
UH-HUH… Walker Pattyson darted up the middle and ripped thru the Cardinal defense yet again for an astounding fourth touchdown run on the day. QB Reed Erwin punched the ball in from the three yard line to make it 27-0 Eagles.
The Eagles greedy defense controlled the rest of the ballgame as the clock mercifully wound down to zero. With the win, the Eagles moved to 4-1 on the season and travel to Tempe next week to take on the Buffaloes. Stay tuned later this week for standing updates and results from this week’s STYFL slate.

I am proud of each and every boy on the team, we have 21 young men with HUGE hearts, they never quit and they always give 110%. To the parents I speak for all the coaches when say thank you for letting us coach your boys in football and more importantly in life. “Do the little things right and big things will happen.
