Fallen Eagle

As the Eagles gathered together for their final practice before this weekend’s playoffs, they did so with heavy hearts. Earlier today Kellie Ardans, mother to Maison Ardans and Amber Ardans and wife to John Ardans, passed away from complications related to her six year battle with cancer.

In a display of unbelievable heart and unimaginable courage, Maison decided to attend tonight’s practice despite today’s tragic news. Throughout the season, Maison has displayed his strength and courage on the football field. Tonight, I think it’s fair to say that the young man and his proud and humble father redefined those terms for all of us.

As I learned of Kellie’s passing this afternoon, I was simply overwhelmed with sadness and empathy for my dear friends and their family. And as the day progressed, I was equally touched by the outpouring of love and support that was shared amongst the Eagle’s extended family as they rallied to put together a game plan in support of their fallen teammate and family.

Within minutes of hearing the news, plans were being hatched to support the Ardans family in their time of need. The outpouring of support culminated in a group prayer organized and led by Coach Gene that took place just before practice this evening. If you weren’t there, I’m here to tell you that it was among the most moving displays of love and support I’ve ever witnessed.

Coach Gene called all of the players over to the far side of the field to take a knee. Off in the distance, the Eagles Jr. Pee Wee team began to make their way toward the practice field to join their Mighty Mite brothers. The parents and other Eagle supporters also converged on the huddle to join the group in prayer. When everyone was settled in, Coach Gene led the group in prayer and announced that the Eagles will be dedicating their playoff run to the memory of Kellie Ardans.

The Eagles players will honor Kellie with a memorial helmet decal created by Mrs. Harris that will be transcribed with the initials “K.A.” and number “57”. Each of the Eagles will also be wearing a black wristband in honor of Kellie.

While today was a sad day for the entire Eagles family, it was also an inspiring one. Kellie Ardans was loved by many and her memory will forever represent the virtues of strength, courage, friendship, and goodwill that were on full display on this tragic day. God bless you Kellie Ardans… we love you and we miss you.

Kelly was a great mom and wife – a very strong woman – an inspiration to us all. Her spirit is near and will continue to be a part of your life. God Bless your family.
