San Tan Youth Football League Eagles

To be honest, it was tough to tell whether the Eagles were up for this game or not as they warmed up Saturday morning. The boys looked a little flat and not quite as excited as they normally are on game day. Needless to say, the armchair quarterbacks were a little nervous as kickoff approached.

Boy were we ever wrong! The Eagles looked as sharp and crisp as ever in a crushing 40-0 defeat of the hapless Tempe Buffaloes at Tempe High School. The Eagles seemingly scored at will as they rode a 27-0 lead at half time with runs from Beaver, Pattyson and Neer.

The Eagles defense was equally impressive as they stuffed the Buffaloes on each possession and swiped the ball with three forced fumbles in the first half alone. Defensive tackles Drew Ball and Maison Ardans hooked up on one of the takeaways as Ball snuffed out a dive play and ripped the ball from the running back. Ardans, who had a monster day from his left defensive tackle position, recovered to give the ball back to the Eagles offense just before halftime. The Eagles Defense would force and recover an astounding 8 fumbles on the day.

The second half was similar to the first with long runs by the fleet footed Dakota Neer (2 TD’s on the day) and Eagles workhorse RB Walker Pattyson (3 TD’s). The Eagles D was simply overwhelming in the second half as well as it held the hapless Buffaloes in check to complete the shut out and preserve the Eagles impressive victory.

The Eagles (5-1) play host to the Rattlers (4-2) on Saturday 10/20 at 8am @ QCMS1. The Rattlers are coming off of three straight victories and will look to knock the Eagles off their lofty perch as the post season approaches.
