The Eagles faced off against the Predators Saturday night in the semi-finals of the San Tan Youth Football League playoffs. Earlier in the season, the Predators were victorious over the Eagles 13-6. This game figured to be a similar dogfight as the two teams seemed evenly matched across the board.
The game didn’t turn out quite how the Eagles expected as the Predators seized momentum early in the contest as they recovered a fumble and rumbled into the endzone to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Eagles offense never seemed to get on track in the first half and suffered from some untimely mental errors that forced the team into third and fourth and long situations. The Eagles showed a ton of heart though as they turned back the Predators toward the end of the first half on a 4 down series inside the Eagles 10 yard line. The offense sputtered again though and provided the Predators with a short field on the ensuing possession. The Predators punched in another score just before halftime to take a 21-0 lead.

The Eagles picked up where they left off last week and took it to the Miners again today in the quarterfinal round of the STYFL playoffs at Prospector Park in Apache Junction. The kids from Queen Creek were sharp on both sides of the ball as they dominated the Miners from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.
Before the game began, both teams gathered in prayer at mid-field as Coach Gene led a prayer for Kellie Ardans (see photo). The game was dedicated to Kellie’s memory and will forever be remembered for all those in attendance as a heartfelt moment of community and compassion.
The Eagles came out firing to open the ball game. Led by quarterback Reed Erwin, running backs Dakota Neer, Walker Pattyson and Bradley Beaver, and a stout offensive line led by Maison Ardans, the Eagles offense was simply unstoppable. The Eagles led the game 21-0 heading into halftime. For all intents and purposes, the second half was merely a formality.

It was a beautiful day for a football game at Apache Junction High School as the 6-1 Eagles took on the 4-3 Miners. Other than J. Wright who missed today’s game due to illness, the Eagles were at full strength.
The game began with the Eagles taking possession as they received the opening kickoff. The Eagles high-powered offense took the field at the 40 yard line and rumbled, bumbled, stumbled toward the goal line on runs by Bradley Beaver, Sam Oram, Walker Pattyson, and Dakota Neer. To all that attended, it was obvious that lightening was about to strike. Then it happened… Dakota Neer took the handoff from quarterback Reed Erwin, darted to the outside and outran the defense for the game’s first score.

Damn that Eagles team is good… real good. Well folks, it wasn’t pretty at first as the Eagles found themselves behind in a game for the first time in several weeks early in the first quarter. Bent but not broken, the Eagles (6-1) stormed back with 19 unanswered points to beat a tough Rattlers (4-3) squad 19-6.
The Rattlers came out and took the opening drive down the field and punched it in for a score. The Eagles were making plays and playing decent defense, but the Rattlers found a way to convert 3rd and 4th down opportunities to keep their drive alive. The Eagles defense stiffened to hold the Rattlers out of the endzone on the extra point try.

To be honest, it was tough to tell whether the Eagles were up for this game or not as they warmed up Saturday morning. The boys looked a little flat and not quite as excited as they normally are on game day. Needless to say, the armchair quarterbacks were a little nervous as kickoff approached.
Boy were we ever wrong! The Eagles looked as sharp and crisp as ever in a crushing 40-0 defeat of the hapless Tempe Buffaloes at Tempe High School. The Eagles seemingly scored at will as they rode a 27-0 lead at half time with runs from Beaver, Pattyson and Neer.

Christmas came early today as the staff at STYFL.com mercifully published the score of the Bulldogs vs Pirates game. In turn and perhaps somewhat sadly, I can now satiate my obsessive compulsive desire to publish the STYFL Mighty Might football standings for Week 5. But first, a review of the scores from around the league.
Eagles 27, Cardinals 0
Rams 36, Cougars 12
Rattlers 21, Miners 0
Predators 26, Buffaloes 0
Diablos 32, Vipers 0
Bulldogs 7, Pirates 0
No huge upsets here with the top teams taking care of business. Of note, the Predators beat our next opponent 26-0 and our last two games are against the Rattlers and Miners respectively. The Rattlers game could very well determine the winner of the division. But hey… let’s not look ahead… we’ve got to take care of business against the Buffaloes on Saturday at 10am at Tempe High School. Should be fun!

It was a beautiful day at QCMS as the Eagles took on the Cardinals in an important divisional game. Coming off their first loss of the season last week, the Eagles looked focused and primed to get back to their winning ways.
Coming off of an injury that sidelined him for the first four games, tailback Bradley Beaver shook off the rust and a few Cardinal tacklers on a nice kickoff return to open the game. The offense stalled on the first drive and turned the ball over on downs to the Cardinals.
The Eagles aggressive defense then took the field and stuffed the Cardinals on 4 downs to regain possession for the Eagles. Led by Quarterback Reed Erwin, the Eagles methodically moved the sticks and were in striking distance as the first quarter came to a close.

The Eagles knew going into week 4 that their date with the Predators would be a tough test. The game lived up to its pre-game billing as the Eagles (3-1) and Predators (3-1) battled thru four tough quarters of football. In the end the Predators prevailed 13-6, but the Eagles fought the good fight and left with their heads held high.
The Predators wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they returned the opening kickoff for the games first touchdown. The Eagles returned the favor in the second quarter on a 90 yard jaunt by Walker Pattyson on a perfectly executed reverse play. The Eagles failed to punch in the extra point and trailed 7-6.

The Eagles didn’t seized sole possession of first place on Saturday as they beat down the Bulldogs 33-0 in their home opener. The Eagles scored early and often drawing E-A-G-L-E-S… EAGLES!! chants from their faithful following.
The Eagles were simply fantastic today on both sides of the ball. Led by Reed Erwin, the offense took advantage of great blocking and hard-nosed running from the Eagles stable of capable running backs. Walker Pattyson and Dakota Neer found themselves in the open field on a regular basis and stymied the Bulldogs defense with speed and athleticism.
