Having made it through the first week of practice, the Birds are at it again in what looks to be another promising year for the club.  The boys have been running their butts off and sweating like dogs in a Chinese restaurant as they prepare for the upcoming season.

I’ve personally been focusing on the Jr. Pee Wee team as my son Drew plays on that team, but I’ve certainly taken notice of the Mighty Mights and Pee Wees as they drag various objects across the football field.  I couldn’t help but think of the grueling training scenes in Rocky IV when Rock was training in a barn out in the middle of nowhere. (queue Eye of the Tiger)

Practice resumes Monday after a well deserved weekend rest for the club.  Keep driving boys… your rewards await you.

]]> http://www.e-a-g-l-e-s.net/practice/eagles-kickoff-2009-training-camp/feed/ 2 It’s on… http://www.e-a-g-l-e-s.net/pre-season/its-on/ http://www.e-a-g-l-e-s.net/pre-season/its-on/#comments Tue, 12 Aug 2008 19:04:34 +0000 admin http://www.e-a-g-l-e-s.net/pre-season/its-on/ Having met the requisite pre-conditioning requirement, the Eagles will don full pads for the first time tonight in a much anticipated progression of the preseason.  Tonight, as they say, we’ll separate the men from the boys.  After last night’s practice, I caught up with Drew Ball (imagine that) who had this to say about full contact practice, “It’s been fun and all, huffing and puffing around the field and running routes and stuff, but I’m a linebacker, Dad!  I was born to hit!”  I’m sure other players share those sentiments.

Shot out to Coach Romel who ran “suicides” with the boys last night!  Pretty impressive stuff Romel… I broke a sweat just watching you, literally.  Also wanted to thank those who took the time to fill out their player bios.  I have received about ten of these now, so keep ‘em coming!  Ryan and I met on the website last weekend and the site is undergoing some upgrades as we speak.  Should be pretty cool when it’s all said and done!

Some other notes and assorted odds and ends…

  • Order forms/money for t-shirts, hats and window decals are due this Wednesday. Please turn these in to your coach.
  • Players that have not been certified they must certify this Saturday, August 16th, to avoid a $20 late certification fee. All players must certify. Also, please note that the location has been moved to Newell Barney Middle School (24937 S. Sossaman Road).
  • Unfortunately, those interested in cheer-leading we were told that this has to go through the Thunder Elite. Sorry, maybe next year… 
  • Tomorrow, is full pads. Including: girdle w/ pads, helmet w/ mouth piece, practice pants w/ pads, shoulder pads and cleats.
