NFL Draft Day 2008 Cometh…

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Tick tock… tick tock…. the Philadelphia Eagles are on the clock!  Ok, so I know this blog is dedicated to the STYFL Eagles and all, but I grew up in the Philadelphia area and Drew and I are HUGE Philadelphia Eagles fans!  It was only a stroke of luck that  Drew ended up on the Eagles team last year in his first tackle football season.  All that said, I’m pumped for the NFL draft tomorrow.

So what do the Eagles do tomorrow.  They have the 19th pick in the first round and have some trade bait in two-time all pro corner Lito Shepard.  Shep has been one of my favorite Birds over the years, but in the past few seasons he’s been on the training table as much as he’s been on the field.  Lito is a great cover corner and a play maker, but the Eagles pretty much drew the line in the sand when they picked up free agent corner Asante Samuel during the free agency period earlier this year.  The Birds brass has been somewhat non-descript as to whether or not they will ultimately trade Shepard, but the general consensus is that Lito will be traded tomorrow as the Birds look to move up in the draft or obtain the services of a veteran playmaker at the wide receiver position.

Super Bowl Sunday!!

February 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

On what’s generally thought to be the biggest sporting event in the world, the Patriots face the Giants in their quest for perfection.  I’m not a big fan of either team, but it should be an interesting match up.  If I had to go one way or another… I guess I’d have to go with Big Blue.

The Giants defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, is a disciple of Philadelphia Eagles DC Jim Johnson, so you’re going to see a lot of press coverage and well disguised blitz packages.  I think you’re also going to see alot of cover 2 on Randy Moss with pressure off the same edge.  This means that Wes Welker could have a monster game.  I’m predicting 10+ catches and 100+ yards for Welker.  Stallworth could take one to the house too if the Giants leave their corners on an island all day and don’t get home with their pressure.

Should be fun… Go EAGLES!!
