October 29th, 2007 · No Comments
Well… the playoff picture crystallized this morning as the STYFL back office updated the scoring from this weekend’s action. The leagues top teams took care of business as the Eagles, Rams, Predators, Diablos and Rattlers won by comfortable margins as expected.
There was one contest on the slate that had heavy playoff implications as the Cougars from Maricopa squared off against the Tempe Buffaloes. With the win, the Cougars moved to 3-5 and grabbed the 7th seed. The Cardinals benefited from the Buffaloes loss and nabbed the 8th seed and the right to play the Rams next Saturday in the quarter-finals.
Scores from around the league:
Predators 46, Bulldogs 14
Rattlers 13, Cardinals 0
Eagles 18, Miners 0
Rams 23, Vipers 13
Cougars 24, Buffaloes 0
Diablos 24, Pirates 0

Eagles Maul Miners, 18-0
October 28th, 2007 · No Comments
It was a beautiful day for a football game at Apache Junction High School as the 6-1 Eagles took on the 4-3 Miners. Other than J. Wright who missed today’s game due to illness, the Eagles were at full strength.
The game began with the Eagles taking possession as they received the opening kickoff. The Eagles high-powered offense took the field at the 40 yard line and rumbled, bumbled, stumbled toward the goal line on runs by Bradley Beaver, Sam Oram, Walker Pattyson, and Dakota Neer. To all that attended, it was obvious that lightening was about to strike. Then it happened… Dakota Neer took the handoff from quarterback Reed Erwin, darted to the outside and outran the defense for the game’s first score.

Bald Eagles Take a Beating
October 25th, 2007 · 2 Comments
They never saw it coming. Blind-sided I tell you. It seemed a bit bizarre that the coaches were seemingly wrapping up practice at 7:30 tonight as the boys gathered in the middle of the practice field. Had we known better, we would have noticed the coaches looking over at the Peanut Gallery gettin’ all chucklehead and such. Del Caron even mentioned that they looked like they were up to something…
Then it happened… they issued the challenge. “Calling all fat men!”, cried Coach Erwin. “Get out here you numb nuts”, belted Coach Beaver. “That means you too Ardans”, exclaimed Coach Romel. And then, like a herd of hippos, the boys in the Peanut Gallery began to make the gradual ascent from the comfy confines and relative safety of the sidelines.
Injury Update
October 24th, 2007 · No Comments
I promised Bill Oram that I’d post an injury update today on Walker Pattyson, so here it is. According to Coach Gene, Walker’s neighbor - an ER Nurse - checked out his arm and concluded that there wasn’t a break. Walker’s a tough kid, so I’m sure we’ll see him on the field this Saturday! Also, it’s Walker’s B-Day today so…
Happy Birthday Walker!!

Shook, Rattled and Rolled
October 20th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Damn that Eagles team is good… real good. Well folks, it wasn’t pretty at first as the Eagles found themselves behind in a game for the first time in several weeks early in the first quarter. Bent but not broken, the Eagles (6-1) stormed back with 19 unanswered points to beat a tough Rattlers (4-3) squad 19-6.
The Rattlers came out and took the opening drive down the field and punched it in for a score. The Eagles were making plays and playing decent defense, but the Rattlers found a way to convert 3rd and 4th down opportunities to keep their drive alive. The Eagles defense stiffened to hold the Rattlers out of the endzone on the extra point try.
