Eagles Battle Hard, Fall Short to Predators

September 29th, 2007 · No Comments

The Eagles knew going into week 4 that their date with the Predators would be a tough test. The game lived up to its pre-game billing as the Eagles (3-1) and Predators (3-1) battled thru four tough quarters of football. In the end the Predators prevailed 13-6, but the Eagles fought the good fight and left with their heads held high.

The Predators wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they returned the opening kickoff for the games first touchdown. The Eagles returned the favor in the second quarter on a 90 yard jaunt by Walker Pattyson on a perfectly executed reverse play. The Eagles failed to punch in the extra point and trailed 7-6.

With the Predators threatening to score again, the Eagles put up a valiant goal line stand on the next series and regained possession of the ball just before the half. The Eagles high octane offense moved the ball inside the Predator’s 20-yard line, but couldn’t punch it in as the clock expired signaling the end of the first half of football. The second half was hard hitting on both sides of the ball as the Eagles and Predators respective defenses took turns teeing off on the opposing offense. The Predators ultimately broke off a couple of long runs and scored toward the end of the third quarter to move ahead 13-6.

The Eagles opened up their next possession with a couple of nice runs to move within striking distance. Having lost Dakota Neer to injury in the first half, the Eagles fed the Predators a healthy dose of workhorse running back Walker Pattyson. Just when it appeared the Eagles were about to seize momentum and punch it on for a score, the offense lost Pattyson and superstar quarterback Reed Erwin to minor injuries that forced them both to the sideline.

The tough Eagles defense stymied the weary Predators on the next possession and stole the ball back with just a few minutes remaining in the ball game. Erwin shook off the cobwebs and re-entered the game to lead the Eagles offense on it’s final drive. The Eagles fought hard as Sam Oram and Preston Pearson took advantage of some great blocking by the offensive line to break off some outstanding runs on the drive. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for the Eagles as the clock expired with the ball inside the Predators 20 yard line. Despite the loss, the Eagles (3-1) remain in a first place tie with the Miners. The Predators improved to 3-1, tied with the Diablos one game behind the 4-0 Rams.

The Eagles look to exact revenge this Saturday at QCMS 2 @ 2pm against the 1-3 Cardinals.
